Abstract
Continuity answers a real need. People move among institutions, jobs, relationships, and services while the context required to make those transitions intelligible remains scattered. Anchor's infrastructure retains, reconciles, and reactivates personal context across those boundaries.
This analysis does not argue that continuity is inherently harmful. It examines the institutional power created when a useful assistant becomes a durable witness: the authority to determine which source is trusted, how conflicts are resolved, and which version of a person or event persists into the next interaction.
Why continuity products emerged
Contemporary software repeatedly asks people to begin again. A new device loses local context. A medical intake repeats a history. A workplace handover drops decisions. A family archive accumulates without becoming searchable. Continuity systems promise to reduce that friction by retaining relationships among fragments rather than merely storing more files.
The value is clearest where forgetting imposes a practical burden: accessibility, complex care, long projects, migration between services, and the ordinary cognitive cost of reconstructing context. A continuity layer can help a user find the thread of a life without pretending that any single database contains the life itself.
From assistant to witness
The category changes when retained context is used to resolve disagreement. An assistant answers, “What did I tell you?” A witness answers, “Which account should be treated as authoritative?” The second function may emerge gradually through meeting summaries, version histories, inferred preferences, identity verification, or cross-service reconciliation.
Anchor's visible product positioning emphasizes continuity across contexts. The critical design question is therefore not whether the system remembers, but what status its memory acquires. A record used privately as a prompt has different consequences from a record used by an employer, insurer, family member, or platform to settle what occurred.
Products become politically consequential as both context depth and reconciliation authority increase.

The categories describe functions, not fixed company identities; one product may occupy several positions.
The business model of certainty
Continuity creates switching costs of unusual depth. A user may leave a storage provider and move files; leaving a system that has learned how their life fits together is harder. The asset is not only data but interpretation: names connected to roles, events connected to consequences, and preferences connected to moments in time.
That can reward providers for presenting coherence as certainty. A reconciled record is easier to sell, integrate, and automate than a record that preserves unresolved contradiction. The commercial pressure is understandable, but it can make ambiguity look like a product defect even when ambiguity accurately represents the underlying human situation.
Who controls reconciliation
NIST's work on transparency and accountability emphasizes provenance and actionable redress, while also warning that explanation alone does not guarantee accuracy or fairness. Continuity systems need that distinction. A polished account of why two records were merged is useful only if the person affected can inspect the sources, contest the rule, and prevent the result from traveling into inappropriate contexts.
The strongest control model would separate storage, interpretation, and institutional use. Users could hold or move source records; providers could offer competing interpretations; institutions would have to disclose when they rely on a reconciled account. No single layer would silently inherit the authority of all three.
Questions consumers should ask
What does the system retain, and can the source record be exported in usable form? How are conflicting memories represented? Can an inference expire without deleting the event from which it was drawn? Which institutions can receive a reconciled account, and can the user see that transfer? What happens to continuity when the subscription ends?
These questions are not accusations. They are the ordinary due diligence required when a product moves from convenience toward infrastructure. Anchor may solve an important problem. The public interest lies in ensuring that solving it does not grant one provider permanent authority over which version of reality persists.
